Free YouTube Title Checker

Most title mistakes are visible before you publish. The point gets cut on a phone, the number sits at the end, or the first words are "Ep. 47". Paste your title and this checker shows each problem in plain words. It is free and runs in your browser.

Checks

Paste a title to run the checks. Everything runs in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere.

These checks only catch mistakes. They cannot tell you whether people will click. For that, the OutlierKit Title tool writes 16 titles for your topic and ranks them against real breakout videos near it. Free to try with 30 credits on signup, no card.

Short answer

  • A YouTube title can be up to 100 characters. Keep the point in the first 60, or the first 40 for Shorts.
  • Put the number or result near the start, where it survives a cut.
  • A checker catches mistakes. It cannot tell you if people will click.
  • To judge the idea, compare your title with breakout videos near your topic.

What does this YouTube title checker check?

It runs 8 or 9 checks, depending on your title. One is a hard rule from YouTube. The rest are guidelines. Each check shows Pass, Check or Fix with a reason, so you know what to change.

A weak title and a strong one, checked side by side

Here are two titles for the same video about paying off student debt. I ran both through the checker on 7 November 2026.

Before: 80 characters

Ep. 47 | My Thoughts On Budgeting And Saving Money And Paying Off Debt This Year

  • Opens with a series label, so the most visible words say nothing.
  • About 20 characters past the phone guideline.
  • The only number is the episode number, not a result.
  • The first part, "Ep. 47", does not stand alone.

After: 64 characters

How I Paid Off $40,000 of Student Debt in 18 Months as a Teacher

  • The result, $40,000, sits in the first 20 characters.
  • 4 characters over the phone guideline, so only "Teacher" is at risk.
  • No labels, caps or clutter.

The second title is the one the OutlierKit Title tool ranked first, with a score of 90, when I gave it this idea on 6 November 2026. It ranked 16 titles against 12 real breakout videos near the topic. Its reason was that the numbers, the timeframe and the personal frame still show even if the end gets cut.

Why a title checker cannot tell you if a title will work

A checker reads rules. Clicks come from the idea and the promise, and no rule can see those. A title can pass every check and still be about something nobody in your niche wants to watch.

The better test is evidence. Look at videos near your topic that beat their own channel's usual views by many times. YouTube does not push a video that far on clicks alone, so those titles earned the click and kept the viewer. If your title makes the same kind of promise, it starts from something that already worked.

  • The Outlier Finder lists those breakout videos for any topic, with their titles.
  • The AI title generator in the app writes 16 titles and ranks them against breakouts near your topic. It does not score a title you bring, so check your own with this page and let the app suggest the alternatives.
  • The free title generator gives you 16 formula ideas when you are stuck.

How to fix a title that fails the checks

  1. Move the result or number to the front. "$40,000 in 18 months" first, the story after.
  2. Cut filler words: "my thoughts on", "everything you need to know about", "this year".
  3. Move labels like "Ep. 47" or the series name to the end, or into the description.
  4. Swap all caps for one capitalized word, if you need any.
  5. Move hashtags into the description. YouTube shows up to 3 of them next to the title.
  6. Paste it again and check that the first 40 characters still make sense on their own.

Where this fits: the 4-step packaging and script loop

I ran one video idea through every packaging and script tool in OutlierKit on 6 November 2026. The idea was "How I paid off $40,000 of student debt in 18 months on a teacher's salary". Each step below shows what the app returned.

  1. Step 1

    Study a breakout

    Video Analysis, 10 credits

"How I Paid Off $70k In 18 Months" by David Why got 48,577 views on a 533-subscriber channel, 339 times its usual. First fix in the report: mention the $70k figure immediately.

    Study a breakout →
  2. Step 2 (this page)

    Pick the title

    Title, 2 credits

Sixteen titles ranked against 12 real breakout videos. The top one scored 90: "How I Paid Off $40,000 of Student Debt in 18 Months as a Teacher".

  3. Step 3

    Fix the script before filming

    Script review, 10 credits

The draft scored 7.6 with a Hook of 5.0. The Blocker: it opened with a channel greeting instead of the debt-payoff result.

Fix the script before filming →
  4. Step 4

    Finish the packaging

Description & hashtags, Chapters, 4 credits

A 142-character opening for the visible part of the description, 3 + 10 hashtags, and 3 chapters starting at 0:00.

    Finish the packaging →

Three tools reached the same verdict on their own: lead with the specific result. The whole loop fits inside the free trial, which is 30 credits on signup, no card, for 3 days.

YouTube title checker FAQ

Is this YouTube title checker free?+

Yes. It runs in your browser with no account and no limit. Nothing you type is sent anywhere. It checks the rules a title can break: length, the phone cut-off, where the number and search phrase sit, caps, emoji and hashtags.

What is the character limit for a YouTube title?+

100 characters. YouTube's help page says video titles have a limit of 100 characters and cannot include invalid characters. In practice the < and > characters are the ones YouTube Studio rejects. Fewer characters show on most screens, so the full guide is on our YouTube title length page.

Can a title checker tell me if my title will get views?+

No. A checker catches mistakes, like a title that gets cut before the point or a number buried at the end. It cannot know whether your audience wants the idea. For that you need evidence from videos like yours. The OutlierKit Title tool ranks 16 titles against real breakout videos near your topic, with a score and a reason for each.

Is a YouTube title analyzer the same as a title checker?+

Mostly, yes. Both names are used for tools that score a title you already wrote. This one shows each rule as pass, check or fix, with a plain reason, instead of one score out of 100. A single score hides which rule failed and why.

Does it work as a YouTube SEO title checker?+

Partly. Add your search phrase and it checks that the phrase is in the title and sits in the first 40 characters. It does not look up search volume. For that, use keyword research first, then put the phrase you chose into the title.

Can I test two titles against each other?+

Paste each one and compare the checks. To test titles on a live video, YouTube Studio has a built-in Test and Compare feature for thumbnails, and on some channels for titles too. Before you publish, the OutlierKit Title tool ranks options against breakout videos, which tells you which angle has already worked.

Why does the checker flag hashtags in my title?+

Hashtags in a title work, but they use space the promise needs. YouTube shows up to 3 hashtags from your description next to the title anyway. So keep the title for the idea and put the hashtags in the description.

Check the idea, not only the title

OutlierKit shows the breakout videos in your niche and ranks your next title against them. Free to try with 30 credits, no card.
