BuzzSumo Pricing: The Free Plan Is Gone and YouTube Costs $499

Half the people searching this page want to know if the free version still exists. It does not. The other thing nobody mentions: YouTube analysis does not start until the $499 a month tier.

The short answer

BuzzSumo pricing at a glance

  • Four plans: $199, $299, $499, and $999 a month. Annual billing cuts the first three to $159, $239, and $399.
  • No free plan: the old free version is gone. A 7 day trial, no card, replaced it.
  • No search limits: every paid tier has unlimited searches.
  • The YouTube catch: the YouTube Analyzer only exists on Suite, at $499 a month.
  • Rating: 4.5 out of 5 from 107 reviews on G2.

What BuzzSumo costs in 2026

BuzzSumo costs $199 a month at the cheapest tier and $999 a month at the top. The ladder is built around team size: 1 user at $199, 5 users at $299, 10 users at $499, and 30 users at $999. Paying annually saves 20%, which BuzzSumo itself quantifies as $478, $718, and $1,198 a year on the three self-serve tiers. Enterprise has no monthly option at all.

Searches are unlimited on every tier, which retires the old daily-limit question. What actually separates the tiers is features and seats, and one feature in particular sits much higher on the ladder than most buyers expect. More on that below.

Plan Breakdown

The four BuzzSumo plans, decoded

The names describe buyers, not features. Reading the feature ladder closely, the real design is simple: articles and social from $199, journalists from $299, video from $499.

Content Creation

$199/mo$159/mo billed yearly

1 user, 2 alerts

Content Analyzer, Trending Feeds, Question Analyzer. 2 years of data history.

The catch: One seat. The moment a second person needs a login, you are shopping for the $299 tier.

PR & Comms

$299/mo$239/mo billed yearly

5 users, 5 alerts

Everything above, plus the journalist Media Database, outreach, coverage reports, and Slack integration. 3 years of history.

The catch: Still no YouTube Analyzer at $299 a month.

Suite

$499/mo$399/mo billed yearly

10 users, 10 alerts

Everything above, plus the YouTube Analyzer, the advanced Chrome extension, and article uploads. 5 years of history. BuzzSumo marks this tier Most Popular.

The catch: This is the first tier where YouTube exists at all.

Enterprise

$999/mo, annual billing only$11,988/yr

30 users, 50 alerts

Everything above, plus RSS feeds, granular location search, and early access to new features.

The catch: No monthly option. This tier is a $11,988 commitment on day one, and it is the only tier that can pay by invoice.

The Free Question

Is BuzzSumo free? Not anymore.

BuzzSumo has no free plan. The free version that made the tool famous, the one with a handful of searches and a daily cap, was retired. Its pricing page today lists only the four paid tiers, and the daily limit people still search for belongs to a plan that no longer exists.

What replaced it is a 7 day free trial with no credit card required. That wording is BuzzSumo's own, from the registration page:

What to do with 7 days

A week is enough to answer one question: does the article and social index cover your niche well enough to justify $199 a month? Run your top ten topics through the Content Analyzer and count how many results you would actually act on. If the answer is thin, no discount fixes it. If it is rich, the tool tends to pay for itself and the trial made the case honestly.

The Buried Detail

The $499 YouTube catch

Here is the detail that changes the math for video teams. The YouTube Analyzer is a Suite feature. It does not exist on Content Creation at $199 or on PR & Comms at $299. The first BuzzSumo plan that can analyze YouTube costs $499 a month, or $399 a month billed yearly, and it arrives bundled with ten seats whether you need them or not.

Figures in the chart, stated again as text: Content Creation $199/mo, PR & Comms $299/mo, Suite $499/mo, Enterprise $999/mo. The YouTube Analyzer is included from Suite upward only.

For comparison, done for you: OutlierKit does nothing but YouTube and starts at $29 a month, with API and MCP access on Pro at $49 a month. Against the tier where BuzzSumo's YouTube begins, that is $450 a month, or $5,400 a year. The honest framing is not that one replaces the other. BuzzSumo is article-first with a YouTube add-on at the top. A YouTube layer is video-first with no article index at all. Teams that need both usually buy the $199 BuzzSumo tier for articles and a dedicated video layer beside it, which still totals $251 a month less than Suite alone.

The Hidden Structure

The per seat math nobody does

Divide each price by its seats and the ladder tells you exactly who BuzzSumo wants as a customer. A solo user pays $199 for their seat. A 30 seat enterprise pays $33.30 for each of theirs, six times less. The product is priced to make individuals feel the squeeze and teams feel clever.

PlanMonthly priceSeatsCost per seat
Content Creation$199/mo1$199.00
PR & Comms$299/mo5$59.80
Suite$499/mo10$49.90
Enterprise$999/mo30$33.30

If you are one person, that first row is the whole story. $199 a month buys you the most expensive seat BuzzSumo sells, on the tier with the fewest features. That is not an accident. It is a nudge toward the team tiers, and it is the main reason solo marketers churn to cheaper tools after the trial.

API

BuzzSumo API pricing

BuzzSumo does not publish API pricing. It offers two APIs, a Search API for querying the content index and an Account API for pulling your alerts and projects, and both are sold separately from the subscription tiers. The pricing page's exact words are Contact Us For Pricing. Even a $999 a month Enterprise seat does not include API access by default.

The pattern across this category is consistent: Glimpse, BuzzSumo, and Tubular Labs all treat their API as a sales conversation. If the work you are pricing is a build, a dashboard, or a screening pipeline, the OutlierKit API and MCP connector come with the Pro plan at $49 a month, so the cost is knowable before a line of code exists.

What users rate it

BuzzSumo holds 4.5 out of 5 from 107 reviews on G2, checked on August 14, 2026. 76 of those reviews are five stars and none are one star, which is a genuinely strong distribution. G2 lists the seller as Cision, the PR software group. The recurring complaint in reviews is not quality. It is the price for small teams, which the per seat table above explains.

The Decision

Is BuzzSumo worth it?

Yes for teams whose output is articles and earned media, no for individuals and video-first teams. The tier structure makes both answers, because the pricing itself is the clearest statement of who the product is for.

A content or PR team working mostly in articles and social

Worth it

The engagement index across articles, Facebook, Reddit, and Pinterest is the deepest in the category. If your output is written content and earned media, this is the tool the price was built for.

Journalist outreach at an agency

Worth it

The Media Database plus coverage reports at $299 a month replaces tools that cost as much on their own. The 5 seats match how agency teams actually work.

A solo marketer or small team

Look wider

The single seat plan costs $199 a month, which is the worst per seat price on the ladder. BuzzSumo's own structure says it wants teams, not individuals.

YouTube research as the main job

Look wider

YouTube arrives at the $499 tier, and even there it is one analyzer inside an article-first product. A dedicated YouTube layer does more for a tenth of the price.

Anything that needs the API

Look wider

The Search and Account APIs are sold separately with no published price. You cannot model the cost of a build before a sales conversation.

BuzzSumo pricing FAQ

The basics

How much does BuzzSumo cost?+

BuzzSumo costs $199 a month at the cheapest tier, Content Creation, which includes one user. PR & Comms is $299 a month with 5 users, Suite is $499 a month with 10 users, and Enterprise is $999 a month with 30 users and annual billing only. Paying yearly cuts the first three tiers to $159, $239, and $399 a month.

Is BuzzSumo free?+

No. BuzzSumo has no free plan. The free version many people remember was retired, and the pricing page now lists only paid tiers. The entry point today is a 7 day free trial with no credit card required, after which the cheapest way to keep using it is $199 a month.

How long is the BuzzSumo free trial?+

7 days, no credit card required. That wording comes straight from the BuzzSumo registration page, verified on August 14, 2026. The trial replaced the old free plan as the only way to use BuzzSumo without paying.

What is the BuzzSumo daily search limit?+

There is no daily search limit on any current paid plan. Every tier lists unlimited searches. The daily and monthly limits people search for belonged to the old free version, which no longer exists.

Plans and billing

Which BuzzSumo plan includes the YouTube Analyzer?+

Only Suite and above. The YouTube Analyzer appears in the Suite tier at $499 a month, or $399 a month billed yearly. The two cheaper tiers, at $199 and $299 a month, do not include any YouTube analysis.

How much does BuzzSumo cost per year?+

Billed annually, Content Creation is $1,908 a year, PR & Comms is $2,868, Suite is $4,788, and Enterprise is $11,988. BuzzSumo states the annual discount saves $478, $718, and $1,198 a year on the first three tiers against monthly billing.

Can I get a refund from BuzzSumo?+

No. BuzzSumo's own FAQ says you can cancel at any time but will still be charged for the full duration of your subscription. Cancel an annual plan after two months and the remaining ten months are not refunded. Invoicing exists only on Enterprise paid yearly.

API, ratings and fit

How much does the BuzzSumo API cost?+

BuzzSumo does not publish API pricing. The Search API and Account API are sold separately from the subscription tiers, and the pricing page says to contact them for pricing. There is no self-serve API tier at any price.

How is BuzzSumo rated?+

BuzzSumo holds 4.5 out of 5 from 107 reviews on G2, verified on August 14, 2026. G2 lists the seller as Cision, the PR software group that also owns Brandwatch.

Is BuzzSumo worth the price?+

For article and social content research at a team scale, yes. Its engagement index is the deepest available. For YouTube research it is hard to justify, because YouTube analysis only starts at the $499 tier and stays shallow next to a dedicated tool. Many teams pair BuzzSumo for articles with a YouTube layer at a fraction of the cost.

What is a cheaper BuzzSumo alternative for YouTube?+

OutlierKit starts at $29 a month and does only YouTube: outlier detection against each channel's own baseline, niche and keyword research, transcripts, and comments. API and MCP access come with the Pro plan at $49 a month, which is $450 a month less than the BuzzSumo tier where YouTube begins.
